Cambridge Children's Hospital

The East of England is the only region in the UK currently without a hospital built for children. Our future hospital will provide care for every child and young person in the region. It will offer the level of care so many families need, without having to travel hundreds of miles to get it.

It will be the first hospital in the world to fully combine mental and physical healthcare. This provides young people and their families with seamless care for individual needs. It will be underpinned by world-class research in child health and genomics.

More intensive care and specialist wards will provide safe spaces to get better. Dedicated operating theatres will assist thousands of life-saving procedures.

The hospital brings together the unique offerings of its three partners:

  • ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Foundation Trust
  • University of Cambridge.

CCH will have a university research facility within. By integrating cutting-edge treatments and technology, this will allow us to:

  • bring physical and mental health together
  • use genomic medicine to treat and prevent diseases
  • put the child at the centre of everything
  • draw on telehealth technology
  • treat young people as close to home as possible.

Progress

In April 2020, CCH had its Strategic Outline Case approved by the Department of Health and Social Care, ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ England and ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Improvement. We submitted The Outline Business Case in December 2022.

The final Full Business Case (FBC) was underway from 2023.

In March 2022, the Cambridge City Council planning committee approved the first designs for the hospital's external appearance.

The projects workstreams are in full flow to attract more than £100 million in funding. This will add to the commitment of £100 million of public money announced in late 2018, by Matt Hancock.

How to get involved

Children and Young PeopleÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Network

We are working with families in the region to co-create a special space that takes care of the whole child. Our focus is on fun, play, and the needs of children. Young people will be the main focus of the hospitalÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ design, putting them at the heart of everything.

Healthcare professionals and staff

The involvement of staff is vital for the success of the project.

Support and fundraising

To create this world-first hospital, we need your support.

Those who fundraise, donate and provide business sponsorship contribute to improving children and young people's health. These acts help bring us closer to achieving our goals.
