Healthcare Science Specialism: Clinical Scientist in Immunology, specialism Cell Therapy

What does your job involve?

I am responsible the overall management and leadership of CCTL. I line manage the Head of Quality and Production Manager and chair weekly meetings to be kept up to date with the service. I am budget holder for the department and therefore responsible for resource management. I am also Designated Individual for our HTA Therapeutic Tissue Licence and ensure that all our services are compliant with regulation. I take an active role in training and operations and am passionate about strategy and the future of the department.

WhatÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ the best thing about your job?

Seeing positive change in the department and helping the service and its staff reach potential; I love teaching and training and inspiring others to succeed in their careers.

What qualifications led you to this role?

  • BSc (Hons) Biology
  • MSc Medical Immunology
  • Clinical Scientist Training and HCPC Registration via Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) portfolio
  • Chartered Scientist Qualification

So many different roles are required for the provision of a Cellular Therapy Service that delivers an excellent cutting edge service; Administrators, Medical Laboratory Assistants, Medical Technical Officers, Technicians, Healthcare Scientists, Manufacture Scientists, Quality Officers, Co-ordinators, Managers… the opportunities are endless!

Do you have advice for someone interested in a career in healthcare science?

Visit as many labs as you can and learn about the different disciplines. Being a Healthcare Scientist does not just mean working in Pathology, there are many other applications too!
